Computer forensics is the scientific process of preserving, identifying, extracting and documenting evidence on electronic storage media. Simply turning on the computer and searching through files yourself can disqualify the results as evidence in a criminal or civil proceeding and may even make you personally liable. This is because when you search computer data you cause hundreds of changes to existing files, which may eliminate the possibility of recovering deleted data or the identification of hidden files. Courtroom standards and legal procedures for correctly preserving and reporting electronic evidence is also changing: litigators and corporations rely on computer forensic professionals like Impact Forensics to correctly and effectively uncover and analyze the electronic evidence.
The majority of businesses today manage their operations with either stand-alone or networked computers. This means that the core business data and transaction records of the company reside on any number of electronic storage devices, including computer hard drives, servers, and other locations.
What can we find in electronic media?
Our advanced technology applications include the identification, retrieval and preservation of evidence from:

- Recovery of data that has been deleted, altered, or transferred
- Email archive restoration, from both current and legacy technology
- Identification and retrieval of metadata to uncover all alterations to word processing documents, spreadsheets, formulas, technical graphics and accompanying comments
- Identification of hidden and/or encrypted/password-protected files
