Former HP Executive Indicted in Email Case

Well, just when you thought executives at the most technological-savvy companies in the world would no longer fall into the trap of sending damaging or incriminating Email to each other….think again. A former Hewlitt Packard vice president has been indicted by federal prosecutors for allegedly passing a confidential Email from his previous employer, IBM to senior HP Executives.The June 27th indictment filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose, California claims Atul Malhotra sent an Email to an HP senior vice president with the subject “for your eyes only” with an attachment containing confidential IBM information. Malhotra was a director of sales and business development in IBM’s printing services division at the time of the alleged email, and then later became a vice president for HP’s printing division. Is it any wonder that Email continues to be the number-one target of computer forensics and e-Discovery in litigation? Upon discovery of the emails, HP fired Malhotra and reported the breach to authorities and to IBM.
