Lawyer Inadvertently E-Mails Copy of Eli Lily Settlement Agreement to New York Times ReporterEver Feel Like You Just Want to Get Away?
In his May column in Chicago Lawyer Magazine, Shawn Wood of Seyfarth Shaw relays a story about an attorney who accidently E-Mailed copies of confidential settlement draft agreement to a reporter who had a similar name and email address of the intended recipient. Ooops! The settlement agreement document related to confidential discussions between the attorney’s client, Eli Lily, and the federal government. Upon receipt of the confidential email, The New York Times promptly broke the story.
Mr. Wood also reminds us of the famous quote from Paul Ehrich….”To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.”
