Computer Forensics Play a Role in the Eliot Spitzer Scandal
April 3rd, 2008
In a stroke of irony even more dramatic than Eliot Spitzer’s stunning resignation and admission of affairs with prostitutes, it is almost a forgone conclusion that some of the computer forensics evidence that led the unraveling of his world will be Electronically Stored Information, (ESI). Why is this ironic? Spitzer, of course, made a career out of discovering “smoking gun” emails on some of the most famous executives on Wall Street. The idea that digital wire taps, electronic banking records and other ESI has created a trail that has ended HIS OWN infamous career is proof that facts are sometimes stranger than fiction.
